Laser Safety Training
Do my employees need laser safety training?
Yes, if you are providing Class 3 or Class 4 laser, or IPL therapy, services.
Laser/IPL safety training will provide your employees with an understanding of the basic principles of laser safety, and complement their laser specific and therapeutic specific training. Training is often the first set of records checked during an incident investigation, and should be regularly updated to keep yourself, your employees and your clients safe.
Is laser safety training a requirement?
In some jurisdictions completion of laser safety training course is required yearly or every two years. The Artificial Optical Radiation Directive requires that an employer provide suitable, and sufficient, information, and training, relating to the risks involved in using the laser, IPL, or other optical therapy devices, which are potentially hazardous to your staff and clients.
Is there a recommended laser/IPL safety training curriculum?
The ‘Core of Knowledge’ laser safety training curriculum represents a body of knowledge that underpins the safe use of lasers in clinical practice. This curriculum is developed and maintained by the British Medical Laser Association, the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, and the Society for Radiological Protection. It is intended for all employees using laser (class 3 and 4) and non‐laser (IPL and LED) light sources in a range of applications, including medical, surgical, dental and aesthetic practices. The British Medical Laser Association (BMLA) only approves courses that follow this curriculum.
Where can I find a course?
We regularly run BMLA approved laser safety courses, which are tailored for specific clinical lasers and practices. You can find details of upcoming courses on our company website. If you complete the questionnaire on the homepage we will give you a 10% discount.
